Local Transport Plan
Work ongoing as part of the LTP
Welcome to the Local Transport Plan for Merseyside website.
The five year Local Transport Plan (LTP) runs until 2011 and is a £230m delivery programme of transport investment and service improvements. It aims to give Merseyside a safer, sustainable, efficient and integrated transport network, accessible to all. The Merseyside LTP Partnership consists of Merseytravel and the five district councils of Merseyside - Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens, and Wirral.
Keeping everyone moving safely and wisely around Merseyside requires a great deal of planning and every 5 years the partnership submit a new plan to government.
On this site you will find all the latest documents about Merseyside's plans for transport, plans for Bus and Rail, Quality of Life and Major new schemes coming up and information reports such as Travel in Merseyside.
Our vision for transport on Merseyside is:
'a fully integrated safe transport network for Merseyside which supports economic and social regeneration and ensures good access for all, and which is operated to the highest standards to protect the environment and ensure quality of life'.
Our long term strategy is to support the continuing economic development of Merseyside by managing for an increase in the demand to travel and to ensure the efficient movement of people and goods.
Our five year plan aims are:• Provide appropriate infrastructure to improve the capacity and efficiency of the transport network and support areas where the economy is growing.
• Provide access for all to provide better links to employment, education and health.
• Manage demand for travel to ensure that our roads do not become congested and affect the efficient movement of public transport and freight.
• Protect/enhance the environment by taking positive measures to reduce the impacts of travel demand.
• Support a healthier community by addressing air and noise problems caused by traffic and promote cycling and walking.
• Make best use of our existing resources by ensuring an efficient maintenance regime.
The LTP explains what will be done over five years to provide an improved, more efficient, better quality, joined up and easy to use transport system throughout Merseyside.
